Welcome to Write Local: The Clark County, KY, Library's Writing Group

Write Local started as as a weekly writing workshop held during the Clark County (KY) Public Library's 2011 Adult Summer Reading Program. For 8 weeks, during the months of June and July, we met every Friday morning from 10-11:30 am, sharing ideas, works in progress, friendly critiques, and biscuits and tomato preserves.  Summer in Kentucky is tomato time, and anytime in Kentucky is right for biscuits.

We originally intended for the group to only meet during the Adult Summer Reading Program, but at the end of 8 weeks we'd found we'd only begun to develop our writing styles and voices.  Even better, though, we found we liked meeting together, that we'd become a group of friends writing.   Our discussions were actually helping each of us develop in our own ways.

That's a magical and satisfying experience, and in lieu of that we decided to continue as long as the magic flows.

So, here we are 6 months later, launching our own blog.  All the writers involved in Write Local  post to this blog.  If you've wandered into it to read the work of one particular member, we hope you'll stay a while to read some posts by other writers.  We have helped each other so much it's fair to say there's a touch, just a smidgin of the group in all of these posts.  But, naturally, each post is primarily the creative work of the individual author.

If you'd like to join our group, feel free.  We are always looking for new members who can bring new insights and perspectives on the craft of writing.  For more information on Write Local, call the Clark County Public Library at 859-744-5661, and ask for Adult Services Librarian, John Maruskin, or leave a message for a writer along with your contact information.

Writing, for us, is like biscuits...there's always time.  We hope you find something tasty here.
